If your power is off, check if your neighbours power is off also, it could be a power cut. If it is after dark, are there streetlights in your vicinity that should be on?

2 - Energy Saving

We all know the merits of changing to energy saving long life bulbs, but how about simple tips such as before starting the washing machine (if you have a sink with a hot tap beside the machine), run the hot tap to allow the hot water to come through and then turn it off. Then start the washing machine. That way, the machine fills with hot water from the start, thereby saving on water heating as the machine is filled with heated water.
